The Nubia museum was built to house the masterpieces discovered during excavations at Nubia. The Museum was formally opened in 1997, as a part of the international UNESCO campaign to save the Nubian Monuments. It was widely praised for the quality of its building in harmony with Aswan’s beautiful nature and won the Agha Khan Award for Architecture in 2001.
Since its opening the museum won worldwide appreciation for its diverse collection and its modern way of display. It houses more than 3000 artifacts which display the ancient Egyptian history and civilization in southern Egypt (Nubia) from prehistory until modern days.
